Transitions Post-Gap Year

From Gap Year to Next Steps

Navigating life after a gap year can be tricky! GYA’s Alumni Committee, with additional contributions from Accredited Gap Year Consultants Marion Taylor (Taylor The Gap), Sandy Storer (A Gap Away), and Katherine Stievater (Gap Year Solutions) developed the Gap Year Transition Guide below.

GYA’s What Next? Transition Guide, written by gap year alumni for gap year alumni, provides suggestions and resources to help with transitioning out of a gap year experience.  As you explore the content in the guide, continue to ask yourself which next steps feel most appropriate: whether it be further studies, employment, interning, volunteering, travel, etc. This guide will not give you a definitive answer for what comes next in your life, but it will provide you with a roadmap for staying engaged, applying your experiences, and reflecting on “next step” options that will feel meaningful and fulfilling to you.
