Membership with GYA provides an opportunity to benefit from gap year-specific professional development opportunities and participation in the gap year movement.
This membership category is for professionals who might have occasional opportunities to advise students and families on the gap year option. This category is appropriate for those in the early stages of gap year advising, those whose primary work is not focused solely on gap year consulting, and/or those who do not yet meet the criteria for another membership category.
This membership category requires:
- Current or aspiring practice in independent educational consulting (such as college/university advising, therapeutic consulting, day or boarding school placements, etc.) with an interest in expanding into gap year advising
- Concurrent membership in NACAC, IECA, TCA, and/or HECA or submission of a professional resume
More and more students are exploring gap year opportunities before college, and research shows that gap year students tend to have high college success rates. Your GYA membership will give you access to gap year resources that can help your students navigate gap year options and gap year-to-college pathways.
Membership benefits for Independent Educational Consultants include:
