  • Mission Statement:

For the last 30 years, Projects Abroad has been helping travelers connect with people and projects all over the world – to engage respectfully with other cultures, to learn and grow as individuals, and to contribute to our host communities in meaningful ways.

More than 125,000 volunteers have traveled with us to over 20 global destinations, where we run a variety of worthwhile projects from working with children to medical internships to conservation and wildlife volunteering. These are long-term, thoughtfully planned projects, led by local people and aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

In all these destinations, Projects Abroad teams are on hand to provide the gold standard of support and safety, as well as the opportunities for personal development, discovery and challenge.

CULTURAL IMMERSION

Staff Training and Certification

The safety of our participants is our priority. We have a rigorous safeguarding policy for all our participants, but for those not yet 18, extra care is in place. All staff are screened through Criminal Record Checks and receive extensive training on how to work with young people. We also have a policy on working with children abroad, which helps us to provide educational support, care, and protection to disadvantaged children in a safe environment.

Projects Abroad programs adhere to the British Safety Standard, BS884. BS 8848 are standards set to minimize the risks of any adventure travel programs outside the United Kingdom. All of our volunteer projects and internships abroad received approval after full research, safety audits, and risk assessments were completed by an external party. And all our staff are first aid trained.

We’re entirely dedicated to the delivery of safe and meaningful experiences for our participants and addressing the social and environmental issues of today. We’re proud that we have received a multitude of awards and accreditations from third-party verifiers such as the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We are also accredited with the UK Year Out Group and Expedition Providers Association (EPA).
