    Gap at CET students hone language skills or take on an international internship in one of five cities around the world. Students get top-tier language instruction and develop valuable professional skills, with the option of earning college credit. Along with engaging coursework, students participate in immersive activities and excursions that get them out of the classroom and gaining a deeper understanding of their host community, the world, and themselves.

    About CET

    CET Academic Programs is a study abroad organization that has been developing and operating innovative educational programs abroad since 1982. Originally “China Educational Tours,” CET began operations in Beijing, later expanding to other locations around the world. Today, CET offers a varied portfolio of semester, summer, and customized programs around the world for college, high school, and gap year students.

    CET is known for strong academics, professional program management, a nimble and collaborative approach to partnerships, and supportive student services. Through elements such as field-based course components, internships, and housing with local roommates, CET strives to integrate students into the local community and facilitate lasting relationships with hosts. Through its commitment to equity and inclusion, CET seeks and encourages the participation of students from diverse backgrounds and strives to create program environments that foster critical thinking and an appreciation of difference. And as an environmentally conscientious organization, CET aims to adopt sustainable measures across its operations.

Hike to breathtaking Minoh Waterfall and take in the colors of the seasons. Japanese in Daily Life class: learn the language you need to thrive in your new day-to-day. Class takes you off-campus to chat with locals and hear how Japanese is spoken colloquially. Get to know your classmates during a traditional tea ceremony. Roommates quiz you on Japanese vocabulary before your next quiz. Walk through the Pokemon Center with your roommate and see who can name more characters. Karaoke night with friends.

Bond with a Japanese family during a weekend homestay. Grocery shopping in the neighborhood Cook dinner with your Japanese roommates. Visit a local elementary school. Strike up a conversation with the owner of your favorite ramen shop. Attend a takoyaki-making (fried dough ball with octopus) party. Prepare for your final Language Project where you\'ll show off your newly minted language skills to peers, teachers, and community members. Join your roommates on an overnight trip to Mie, visit a re-created ninja village, spend the night in a minshuku (Japanese-style housing), and marvel at the sacred Wedded Rocks.

CET also offers virtual Custom Language Training in Chinese each quarter, open to students at any language level, ages 16 and up. Current high school students and graduating seniors are also eligible to participate in CET's Global Perspective summer pre-college programs, offered in China, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Washington, DC.

    CET is committed to increasing access to study abroad for gap students and has a financial assistance pool for students who demonstrate family financial need. Award amounts usually range from $250 to $2,000.


Staff Training and Certification

Each CET program is staffed by full-time, on-site professionals familiar with the location and fluent in the local language. All staff are available to assist and support students throughout their term abroad, from in-country orientation through the end of the program and beyond. Resident staff provide a bridge between our students and the local community. Academic staff supervise the curriculum, manage the faculty, and monitor courses.
