Contemplative Semester: Info & Practice Session

June 5, 2024 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Come learn about Contemplative Semester, a three-month immersion in Buddhist wisdom, intentional community, and meditation practice for 18-25 year olds in the beautiful foothills of Vermont’s Green Mountains. In this 1 hour of practice and conversation, co-founder and teacher, Jessica Morey, and movement teacher, Catherine Khang Banson, will share about the program’s inspiration and purpose to offer a refuge for young adults. Jess and Catherine will also discuss the curriculum — college credit is available for three courses: Buddhist Theory and Practice; Relational Mindfulness; and Nature Connection. These courses will introduce students to the foundations of Buddhist philosophy and practice, how Buddhism is influenced by contemporary culture and intersects with race, identity, justice, and contemporary life. Catherine and Jess will also explore how this program will support participants in integrating Buddhist wisdom into everyday life, including how it can support students in skillfully navigating conflict & power dynamics, speaking one’s truth, collaborating with others, applying principles of nonviolence to social change, and working with strong emotions and habitual thoughts.

In addition to some time practicing together, this evening will also provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions about the Contemplative Semester.
